What is Sortd for Gmail?
Sortd for Gmail is a Chrome extension and Gmail add-on that brings email, tasks and team workflows together inside Gmail. Organise conversations on shared boards, assign an owner, track status and deadlines, and reply with the conversation in view. We call it Sortd for short.
How does Sortd for Gmail use my Google data?
Sortd for Gmail asks for permission to access Google data so its features can work. Google shows the permissions before you connect.
- Account details: your name and email address identify your account and show teammates who you are.
- Email and labels: organise conversations on boards, connect email to tasks, apply labels and run the automations you configure. Conversations added to shared boards are available to members of those boards.
- Drafts and sending: compose and reply from Sortd, and collaborate on shared drafts. Connected tools may send email when you have authorised them to do so.
- Calendar: when you enable the calendar feature, events can appear alongside tasks in your day planner.
- AI features: relevant email content is processed to provide features such as labels and prioritisation. Sortd does not use Google Workspace or Gmail data to develop, improve or train general-purpose AI or machine-learning models.
Sortd does not sell your Google data or use it for advertising. Its use of information from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can remove access in your Google account. See the Privacy Policy and Security page for details, or request account removal.
Do I need a separate Google Cloud project to connect my AI agent?
No. With Sortd for Agents, your agent connects to your existing Sortd workspace through the API or MCP. You grant its permissions and configure the actions it can perform, without building a separate Gmail API integration. Explore Sortd for Agents.
Can I manage tasks that don’t start with an email?
Yes. Add tasks alongside email conversations, give them useful titles, and organise them with notes, checklists and due dates. Your board can show the work you need to do, whether or not it arrived in your inbox.
Can people and AI work on the same draft?
Yes. Drafts on shared boards are available to the team. Your own connected agent can prepare a reply, and a teammate can review, improve and send it. Sortd for Agents is draft-only by default; sending requires explicit permission.
Does Sortd work inside my existing Gmail?
Yes. Sortd works inside the Gmail interface you already use. Keep your email address and conversations, and add visual boards, tasks and follow-ups around them.
How do AI Inbox Labels work?
Sortd AI categorises conversations in your Primary inbox with real Gmail labels: read, respond, revisit, review, relax and r.i.p. Labels update as the conversation changes. You opt in to the feature, and the labels are visible in Gmail on mobile.
Are AI Inbox Labels the same as AI Board Tags?
They serve different places. AI Inbox Labels help you organise your personal Gmail inbox. AI Board Tags help your team see response status, urgency and sentiment on shared boards.
Can I use Sortd alongside Gmail AI and Gemini?
Yes. Keep using Gmail’s own AI for email assistance. Sortd adds organisation, ownership and workflows in Gmail. Sortd for Agents also lets you connect your own agents, including Gemini, through API and MCP.
Which AI features are available?
AI Inbox Labels are in Business beta, with Essentials planned. Board Smart Status is available on Essentials and above; urgency and sentiment are on Business. API and MCP access for your own agents is on Business. Check the live feature and pricing pages for current availability.
How does a shared inbox work in Sortd?
Your team shares conversations, attachments and tasks in a Gmail workspace. See the full history, assign an owner and track the next step. Each person keeps their own read and unread state.
How do I delegate an email?
Assign the conversation to a teammate, add a due date and leave an internal note. The conversation and attachments stay with the work, so the next person has the context.
What does Sortd for Agents add?
Connect your own agents through API and MCP to classify work, extract details and prepare contextual drafts in the team’s workspace. Draft-only is the default; sending requires explicit permissions.
How do I get started?
Add the Sortd Chrome extension and open Gmail. The free trial lasts seven days and does not require a credit card.
